Frequently Asked Questions

What is mediumship?

Mediumship is communication with people who have died.

The easiest way I know to explain it is to think about a radio. A radio receives a signal and translates that signal into something you can hear. I believe mediumship works in a similar way.

When I do a reading, I tune in and receive information through images, words, feelings, memories, physical sensations or sometimes just knowing something.

I then tell you what I'm getting.

The evidence helps us understand who is communicating. Then we can get to the most important part: what do they want you to know?

What is the difference between a psychic reading and a mediumship reading?

A mediumship reading focuses on communication with people who have died.

Psychic information is more about you. I may pick up information about your life, relationships, experiences or things you're currently working through.

I am both psychic and a medium, so sometimes psychic information comes through during a mediumship reading too. I don't get terribly hung up on labels while I'm working. I share what I'm getting and tell you how I'm receiving it.

Will you see or hear my loved one standing in the room?

Not usually, at least not the way you're probably imagining.

I don't typically see a dead person standing next to you like I would see another person in the room.

For me, information comes through in different ways. I may see an image in my mind, hear a word or name internally, feel something physically, get a memory or suddenly know something without knowing how I know it.

That's why I use the radio analogy. I'm receiving a signal and interpreting the information I'm getting.

It's much less Sixth Sense than people think. 😂

Can you read my mind or know something I don't want you to know?

No. I cannot read your mind.

Being psychic doesn't mean I have unlimited access to your thoughts, secrets or everything that has ever happened to you.

Information may come through about your life during a reading, but I'm not digging around looking for things. I'm receiving what comes through and sharing it with you.

And if something comes up that you don't want to talk about, you don't have to talk about it. You are always allowed to say, "I'd rather not go there," and we'll move on.

I promise I'm not sitting across from you secretly reading your thoughts.

What if someone I don't necessarily want to talk to shows up?

It can happen.

Sometimes someone comes through who you weren't expecting, or honestly, weren't particularly hoping to hear from.

Just because someone shows up doesn't mean you have to engage with them.

If you recognize who I'm talking about and you don't want to go there, tell me. We can move on.

I do think it's worth being a little curious about why someone might be showing up before immediately shutting the door. Sometimes there may be something they want to acknowledge or say.

But ultimately, you get to decide whether you want to hear it.

Spirit may be leading the reading, but you still have boundaries.

Are you a medium all the time? Like, are dead people talking to you when you're out to dinner?

Thankfully, no. lol.

I am always intuitive in the same way I'm always me, but I'm not walking around constantly tuned into Spirit.

When I'm doing a reading, I'm intentionally opening up and paying attention to that information. When I'm done, I'm done.

Can I occasionally notice or sense something when I'm not working? Sure. But I'm not sitting at dinner with my friends thinking, Hang on, somebody's grandmother would like a word.

I have boundaries with Spirit just like I have boundaries with living people.

Sometimes I just want to eat my dinner.

Do I need to believe in mediumship for it to work?

Nope.

You don't have to know what you believe. You can be curious. You can be unsure. You can have a million questions.

I'm not here to convince you that mediumship is real or prove anything to you.

Just come curious.

What if nothing comes through or the person I'm hoping for doesn't show up?

I can't control who comes through, and I can't guarantee that a specific person will.

I know that can be frustrating, especially when there's someone you really want to hear from. But I believe I'm working in service to Spirit during a reading, which means I have to let them lead the conversation rather than trying to force it in a particular direction.

I also won't pretend there's a strong connection when there isn't one.

If we're about 15 minutes into your session and I don't feel I have enough clear evidence to continue, I'll tell you and refund your session.

I'd much rather do that than try to make something fit.

How do I prepare for a reading?

You really don't need to do anything.

You don't need to meditate, clear your energy, prepare questions or study how mediumship works.

For Zoom readings, find somewhere relatively quiet where you can talk comfortably without being interrupted.

And then just show up.

I'll explain everything before we start.

What is a reading like with you?

Pretty conversational.

I'll explain how I work, get quiet for a minute and then start telling you what I'm receiving.

I might see something, hear a word or name, feel something physically, get a memory or suddenly know something. Sometimes what I'm saying will make immediate sense to you. Sometimes it won't.

That's okay.

I don't need you to give me a bunch of information. I may ask if you understand something I'm giving you, but simple answers are enough.

I also can't control who comes through or what they want to talk about.

My job is to listen, tell you what I'm getting and let Spirit lead the conversation.

What if I feel nervous before my session?

That's really common, especially if you've never been to a medium before.

There's nothing you're supposed to know and no right way to do this.

I'll walk you through everything when we start.

And most of the people who sit down with me are first-timers, so you are definitely not the only one who has walked in thinking, Okay...what the hell is about to happen?

Do you predict the future?

No.

I'm psychic, so information about your life may come through during a reading. I may see a possibility or something that feels probable, but I don't believe the future is set in stone.

There are endless possibilities, and we all have free will. Things change. We change.

So I don't do fortune-telling or tell you what's definitely going to happen.

I'm much more interested in what's coming through now and why.

Do you diagnose medical or mental health conditions?

No.

Mediumship isn't a substitute for medical, mental health, legal or other professional care, and I don't diagnose conditions.

Do you offer Zoom readings?

Yep.

I offer readings both in person in Metro Detroit and online via Zoom.

Your Zoom link will be sent automatically after you book.

Is Zoom as good as an in-person reading?

Yep.

Spirit doesn't seem particularly concerned with Wi-Fi. :)

I've done readings both ways for years, and I don't find that physical distance prevents me from connecting.

Choose whichever one makes your life easier.

Where are in-person readings held?

In-person readings are held at my office in Huntington Woods, Michigan, in the Metro Detroit area.

You'll receive the details when you book.

How long is a reading?

Private readings are 60 minutes.

How much is a reading?

A 60-minute private mediumship reading is $175.

Group readings and special events are priced separately.

How do I book a reading?

Click the Book a Reading button to see my current schedule.

If you see a time that works for you, grab it.

That's it. :)

Do you have a waitlist?

Not currently.

My booking page shows my current availability, and I add appointments to my schedule as I'm able.

You can also join my email list if you'd like to stay connected and hear about new events, classes or other things I'm working on.

What if I don't see an appointment time that works for me?

My schedule changes, and I may add additional appointments, including some Thursdays, evenings and Saturdays.

If nothing currently listed works for you, check back or reach out to me. If I can accommodate another time, I will.

What if I can't make my scheduled appointment?

You may reschedule or cancel up to 24 hours before your session.

I understand that things happen. If there's an emergency, reach out and I'll do my best to work with you.

No-shows without notice are non-refundable.

Who can come to my appointment?

A private reading is intended for one person.

Having one sitter allows me to stay focused on your connection and what Spirit is bringing through.

Can I book a reading for two people?

Sometimes.

If you and another person are hoping to connect with the same loved one or family members, contact me before booking and we'll figure out whether a shared reading makes sense.

Do you offer group readings?

Yes.

I offer small group readings and occasional events, both in person and online.

Current options will be listed on my booking page when they're available.

Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?

Late Evenings are usually Wednesday and Friday, but always check my calendar.

My regular availability is shown on my booking page, and I occasionally add more evenings and Saturdays.

If you need something outside of what's listed, you're welcome to ask. If I can make it work, I will.

Do I need a medium to connect with someone who has died?

No. And I really want people to understand this.

I don't believe mediums have access to something that you don't.

I believe we're all capable of experiencing intuition and connection. You might experience it through dreams, signs, feelings, memories, knowing something without knowing why or in ways completely different from how I experience it.

Mediumship is something I've spent years learning and practicing, so I'm pretty good at recognizing the signal and translating what I'm getting.

But you have a receiver too.

Learning to recognize it and trust yourself is a big part of this work for me.

I'm really glad you're here. ♡

"Everything Shannon shared with me resonated. She made me feel comfortable and was very clear that I should not make something fit if it doesn’t. Thank you for sharing your gift with me Shannon. You helped get me over a threshold I didn’t know I was even on."
