What to Expect

How does this all work anyway?

How does mediumship actually work?

Great question.

My family has a pretty deep-rooted history in radio and television, so I have an analogy I love to use to explain what I think is happening when I do mediumship.

Think about a radio.

There are radio signals all around you right now. You can't see them. You can't hear them. But that doesn't mean they aren't there.

A radio is basically a receiver. When you tune it to the right frequency, it picks up a signal and turns that signal into something you can actually hear.

And here's the part I really love.

When a radio breaks or stops working, we never assume the radio signal died too.

It didn't.

The receiver stopped working. The signal is still there. It's unseen in the space around us, whether we're tuned into it or not.

You just need another receiver to pick it up.

That's pretty much how I think about death and mediumship.

Our physical body is the receiver. When the body dies, I don't believe the signal dies with it. The connection is still there. We just can't pick it up in the same way we did before.

So what am I doing during a reading?

Basically, I'm the radio.

I get quiet, clear my own thoughts as much as possible and tune in. Just your average Tuesday.

The information doesn't usually come through like someone is standing next to me having a regular conversation.

I may see something in my mind. I may hear a word or a name. I might feel something in my body, smell something, remember something I've never actually experienced or suddenly just know something.

I'm blending with their energy and reporting what I get.

And sometimes what I get makes absolutely no sense to me.

That's actually pretty normal.

It's a little like learning a new language. Or playing charades.

I'm receiving information and trying to understand what Spirit is communicating. And every Spirit communicates differently.

So sometimes it feels less like having a conversation and more like a really weird game of charades.

They give me something. I interpret it. I give it to you. You recognize it. That helps me understand what they're showing me and we keep going.

That's also why I will never be 100% accurate.

I'm still a human being receiving and interpreting information. And unfortunately, this particular human being really likes being right.

I've joked for years that Spirit probably looked down and said, “See that chick who really likes being right? Let's make her a medium. She'll have to be vulnerable, say things that make absolutely no sense to her and be willing to be wrong in front of complete strangers. That sounds fun.”

And so, here we are.

The evidence helps us figure out who's here.

A personality trait. A relationship. A memory. A name. How someone died. Something they owned. Something they did all the time. Some completely random detail that means nothing to me and everything to you.

That's the evidence.

It helps you recognize the person I'm connecting with.

And once we know who's here, we get to the most important part:

What do they want you to know?

Because ultimately, I believe Spirit is the client too.

They're not just showing up so I can prove that I can talk to dead people. They're communicating.

I don't decide what they should say.

My job is to listen.

So, here I am, in service of Spirit.

This work has taught me a whole lot about surrender and vulnerabilty.

I don't control who comes through. I don't control what they talk about. I don't know what piece of evidence they're going to give me. And sometimes I don't understand something until you do.

My job is to get myself out of the way as much as possible, tell you what I'm receiving and let Spirit lead the conversation.

Sometimes I'll be wrong.

Sometimes something won't make sense until three days later.

And sometimes something will come through that neither one of us could possibly have expected or known about.

That's mediumship.

And here's something else I really want you to know.

I'm not the only radio.

I don't believe mediums have access to something everyone else doesn't.

You are a receiver too.

You may experience it differently than I do, and you may not recognize the signal yet, but I believe we all have intuition and the ability to experience connection.

You don't need me to give that to you.

A lot of learning this is simply learning how you receive information and then learning to trust it.

One last pro-tip.

If you have a secret code with Grandma that you've decided I absolutely must say before you'll believe she's here, please don't spend the entire reading waiting for it.

TRUST ME. I would LOVE the code.

Remember, I like being right.

I also have no idea why they won't just tell me the damn code. This would be so much easier!

Until then, pay attention to everything else they're giving us.

You don't need to do anything special before your reading.

You don't need to meditate. You don't need to clear your energy. You don't need to study mediumship or figure out exactly what you want to ask.

Just show up. Be curious and open minded.

I'll explain what we're doing, and we'll go from there.

I'm excited and grateful to connect.
