Everyone always asks me:

What is the Difference Between a Psychic and a Medium?

If you’ve ever wondered whether you need a psychic, a medium, or what the heck the difference even is, you’re definitely not alone.

The words get used interchangeably all the time, but they aren't exactly the same thing.

The easiest way I explain it is:

Psychic information is about you.

Mediumship is communication with Spirit.

There can absolutely be overlap, but the source of the information is different.

What does a psychic do?

A psychic tunes into your energy.

Psychic information might relate to what you're experiencing right now, relationships, patterns in your life, decisions you're working through or things that may be developing around you.

I'm psychic, so this kind of information can come through during my readings.

But I don't use psychic information to tell you exactly what's going to happen in your future.

I may pick up a possibility or something that feels probable, but I don't believe the future is set in stone. There are endless possibilities, and we all have free will.

Things change. We change.

I'm much more interested in what is happening now and why.

What does a medium do?

A medium communicates with people who have died.

When I'm working as a medium, I'm not primarily reading your energy. I'm tuning into Spirit and receiving information from the person who is communicating.

That information can come through in all kinds of ways.

I may see images in my mind, hear a word or name, feel something physically, get a memory, sense someone's personality or suddenly know something without knowing how I know it.

My job is to tell you what I'm receiving as clearly as I can.

What is evidential mediumship?

This is an important part of how I work.

Evidence is specific information that helps you recognize who I'm communicating with.

It might be a personality trait, relationship, memory, name, occupation, cause of death, something they owned or some completely random detail that means absolutely nothing to me but immediately means something to you.

The evidence helps us establish:

Okay. That's my person.

But I don't believe that's the end goal of a reading.

Once we know who's there, we get to the most important part:

What do they want you to know?

For me, that's where mediumship becomes much bigger than proving I can receive information.

Evidence → Connection → Message → Meaning

So are you a psychic or a medium?

Both.

I usually describe myself as a psychic medium because

I experience both kinds of information.

If I'm doing a mediumship reading and psychic information comes through,

I'll tell you. I'm not terribly interested in forcing everything into a category while I'm working.

I care more about understanding where the information seems to be coming from

and what I'm supposed to do with it.

How does mediumship work?

I can't tell you scientifically exactly what's happening. I can only explain how I experience it.

I think about it like a radio.

Radio signals exist all around us even though we can't see or hear them without a receiver.

When a radio breaks or stops working, we don't assume the radio signal died too.

The receiver stopped working.

The signal is still there.

That's pretty much how I think about death.

I believe the physical body is the receiver. When the body dies, the signal doesn't disappear with it.

When I'm doing mediumship, I'm essentially another receiver. I tune in, receive information, interpret it the best I can and tell you what I'm getting.

Basically, I'm a human radio ;)

Which is weird. But here we are.

Do you need a medium to connect with someone who has died?

No!!!!

And this is something I really want people to understand.

I don't believe mediums have some special access to Spirit that you don't.

I believe we're all capable of experiencing intuition and connection.

You may notice it through dreams, signs, feelings, memories,

sudden knowing or something you can't quite explain.

I've spent years learning how I receive information,

how to recognize it and how to trust it.

But you have a receiver, too.

You don't need me to give you access to something you don't already have.

How can I find a reputable evidential medium in Metro Detroit?

Look for someone who is clear about how they work,

what you can expect and what they can't promise you.

Read their website. Look at real client experiences.

Do they have boundaries?

Do they explain what happens if the connection isn't strong?

Do they guarantee a specific loved one will come through?

Do they make predictions or use fear?

And maybe most importantly, do they seem like someone

you'd actually want to sit with for an hour?

As for me, I guess you could say I’m just trying to normalize the woo.

Not by convincing everyone to believe what I believe.

I'm much more interested in making it easier to talk about mediumship, intuition, life after death and all the weird things we experience but don't always know what to do with. I don't guarantee who will come through. I don't predict your future. And I won't force a connection that isn't there.

I take mediumship seriously.

I just don't think it has to feel so serious.

You don't have to know what you believe.

Just come curious.
